In cloud-based IoT systems, gateway devices (hubs) are central to connect front-end IoT devices and back-end cloud services. Traditionally, research on hub selection and configuration focused on optimizing the network energy consumption for long-term operations; however, the billing cost on using cloud services has became a pressing problem for sustainable operation of an IoT system with cloud computing back-end.
