On the basis of Bieyancao Tunnel project, which is one of the eight level I risk tunnels in Yichang - Wanzhou railway line, the safety risks for tunneling in fault fracture zone are analyzed. The safety risks include mutations of engineering geology and hydrogeology, surrounding rock instability, sudden water inflow, structural damage of tunnel lining, exhaustion of groud water in tunnel top.
