语言与文化的关系密不可分。谚语通过文化结构传递语义指代,是表达价值观的媒介,是语言文化的一个精华部分。文化定势是概括文化差异的一种主要方式。讨论不同文化价值取向在汉英谚语中的投射,并引用汉语和英语中的相关谚语加以佐证,能够加强对语言和文化本质的理解。
