恩格斯指出,人类婚姻主要有三种形式:群婚、对偶婚、一夫一妻制。从婚姻的词义、目的与仪式来考察,群婚并不是婚姻,对偶婚才是人类第一种婚姻形态。对偶婚的望门居阶段是现代婚姻萌芽期,从妻居阶段是现代婚姻初步发展期,从夫居阶段是现代婚姻形成期。一夫一妻制是现代婚姻的完备形态。

Engels pointed out that human marriage includes three types, they are groups marriage, pair marriage and monogamy.
