现代汉语虚词大多是由实词虚化而来,都经历了一个较长的语法化过程."连"在现代汉语中用法颇多,这种共时方面的差异是历时方面不同发展阶段的产物."连"的本义是连结,是一个动词.后来由于结构关系和句法位置的改变,词义随之泛化;反过来,词义的泛化又引起结构关系和句法位置的改变.因此,在这种虚化机制的作用下,"连"的副词和介词用法就产生了.

Function words in modem Chinese mostly originate from national words. They go through a longer process of grammaticalization. Chinese character word of ＂lian＂ has a lot of usage in modem Chinese.
