The paper describe a simulated annealing approach for solving the buffer allocation the problem of optimizing cyclic schedules in polyester staple fiber production lines. The problem entails the determination of the sequence of products in large production lines with the objective of minimizing sum of costs for changeover and holding inventory. The problem concerns the planning and scheduling of a production of two sequence of stages each involving one production line that are interconnected by storage buckets.
