Fiber dispersion in standard single mode fiber (SSMF) limits the maximum delivery distance for the optical millimeter (mm)-wave signals generated by double sideband modulation and vestigial sideband filtering. We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel scheme to generate mm-wave signals without dispersion limitation. The power penalty for 2.5-Gbit/s mm-wave signals carried by 40-GHz radio-frequency after transmission over 80-km SSMF is smaller than 0.5 dB. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
