Biochar and its modified products have received much attention in the adsorption treatment of heavy metal wastes, but there has been great potential for improvement in efficiency and cost. In this study, nitrogen-containing lotus leaves taken from lotus root harvests were pyrolyzed and modified by the silicon from industrial by-product micro-silicon powder, and then the Si-modified and nitrogen self-doped lotus leaf biochar (Si@N-BC) was prepared as an efficient material for the adsorption of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ in aqueous solution.
