在世界民族服饰史上，苗族服饰无疑是最为丰富多彩、鲜艳夺目的，其精湛的制作技艺、丰富的文化内涵、艳丽的色彩、奇特的造型为世人所称道。苗族支系众多，由于各个支系所处的地理环境不同，其服饰、生活习俗也表现出一定的差异性。黔东苗族属于红苗支系的一支，在漫长的历史演变过程中，逐渐形成了有别于其他支系的服饰文化。近年来，黔东苗族服饰出现了衰退的迹象，需要从价值观念、审美观念、用料观念几个方面创新，确保黔东苗族服饰的传承与发展。
